Protect Your Buses with our Automatic Fire Safety System

Our AIS-135 certified Fire Detection and Alarm System (FDAS) &  Fire Detection and Suppression Systems (FDSS) for Buses ensure maximum safety for passengers and buses, with cutting-edge technology and rapid response times.

Why Do Buses Need Fire Protection?

Since 1st Oct 2023 it has been mandated by MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport & Highways) that Type III buses of category M3 (ie Long Distance buses) and school buses must meet the stringent AIS-135 standards.

These standards mandate comprehensive fire detection, suppression, and alarm systems to minimize risks associated with fire incidents. In a country where buses are a major mode of transportation, protecting lives by quickly detecting and controlling fire hazards is critical. Adopting compliant fire safety system enhances passenger safety thus contributing to safer public transportation and instilling greater confidence among commuters.

Bus fires typically originate due to several factors :

Road Accidents

Lack of maintenance

Short circuits from faulty electrical wiring

Combustible debris accumulating over time

Flammable fluids present in the engine bay

Automatic Fire Safety System for Buses

This cutting-edge system designed for buses saves lives against fire accidents, detecting and suppressing flames swiftly and effectively.

The Shimnit New Fire- Automatic Fire Protection System

Our Automatic Fire Protection System (AFPS) for Buses provides state-of-the-art fire safety solutions, meticulously designed to protect both the Engine Bay and Occupant Bay areas of the vehicle. It integrates advanced Fire Detection, Alarm, and Suppression systems tailored to each specific zone, ensuring comprehensive safety of passengers.

Here’s a breakdown of how the system functions, highlighting its key features for each specific zone:

1. Engine Bay Protection

How It Works :

The engine bay is one of the most fire-prone areas in a bus due to the presence of flammable fluids, electrical components, and high temperatures. Our fire suppression system utilizes a foam-based extinguishing agent designed to automatically activate upon detecting a fire in the engine bay. The system’s linear heat detection cable quickly identifies temperature spikes, activating the suppression system to flood the area with foam within seconds, effectively extinguishing the flames.

Key Features :

Rapid Detection

The system’s linear heat detection cable responds in under 10 seconds to temperature increases, providing instant alerts to the driver’s display.

Automatic Activation

The foam-based extinguishing agent released automatically, offering immediate suppression to prevent fire escalation.

Environmentally Safe

The foam concentrate used is biodegradable, non-toxic, and easy to clean, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

Robust Components

Featuring lightweight cylinders, stainless steel pipes, and pressure gauges, the system is built to withstand harsh conditions.

Low Pressure Operation

The system operates at 20 bar pressure, providing efficient and controlled deployment of the extinguishing agent.

2. Occupant Bay Protection

How It Works :

The occupant bay is protected using a low-pressure water mist system that activates when smoke is detected in the bus interior. Our multisensory detectors, equipped with optical and heat-sensing capabilities, ensure that any signs of a fire trigger an immediate response. Once activated, the water mist system disperses a fine spray through strategically placed nozzles, rapidly cooling and suppressing the fire while minimizing water damage.

Key Features :

Multisensory Detection

The system utilizes Orbis optical/heat multisensory detectors, which are highly sensitive to fast-burning fires while minimizing false alarms through transient rejection algorithms.

Fast Activation

The water mist system deploys automatically, operating for a duration of three minutes to ensure thorough suppression.

Efficient Water Usage

Each nozzle has a flow rate of 1.65 liters per minute at 7 bar, providing effective fire suppression with minimal water.

Stainless Steel Construction

The water mist nozzles are made from SS 304 material, ensuring durability and resistance to corrosion.

Plug-and-Play Installation

Our proprietary saddle design makes the system easy to install and maintain, with a compact configuration that fits various bus models.

Zone Control

The system is divided into two zones—Zone 1 for the occupant bay and Zone 2 for the engine bay—allowing tailored response based on the fire’s location.

Automatic Fire Protection System for Buses

Our Automatic Fire Protection System for Buses provides state-of-the-art fire safety solutions, meticulously designed to protect both the Engine Bay and Occupant Bay areas of the vehicle. It integrates advanced Fire Detection, Alarm, and Suppression systems tailored to each specific zone, ensuring comprehensive safety of passengers.

Engine Bay: Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS) & Fire Detection and Alarm System (FDAS)

The Engine Bay is highly susceptible to fire due to the presence of combustible materials, high operating temperatures, and complex electrical systems. To address these risks, our system employs FDAS and FDSS for rapid detection and suppression.

  • Fire Detection and Alarm System (FDAS): The FDAS is equipped with advanced sensors that continuously monitor for smoke, heat, or flame in the Engine Bay. On detecting a potential fire, the system instantly triggers visual and audible alarms to alert the driver, enabling prompt action.

  • Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS): Upon detection of fire, the FDSS automatically activates, deploying a specialized suppressant agent that effectively extinguishes flames in the Engine Bay. The suppression agent is environmentally safe, non-corrosive, and specifically formulated to tackle fuel and electrical fires, minimizing vehicle damage and enhancing safety.

Occupant Bay: Fire Alarm System (FAS) & Fire Protection System (FPS)

The Occupant Bay, dedicated to passenger safety, incorporates advanced detection and protection measures through FAS and FPS to safeguard occupants from potential fire hazards.

  • Fire Alarm System (FAS): FAS utilizes strategically placed smoke and heat detectors within the passenger compartment, providing immediate alerts when a fire is detected. The system ensures rapid response, allowing for swift passenger evacuation and emergency procedures.
  • Fire Protection System (FPS): The FPS in the Occupant Bay is based on cutting-edge technology transferred from the Centre for Fire, Explosive and Environment Safety (CFEES), a premier DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) lab. This advanced technology enhances fire safety protocols, focusing on fire containment and protective measures that secure the bus interior, guiding passengers to safety during emergencies.

Key Features:

DETECT: The linear heat detection cable in the engine bay or the multi‑sensor detectors in the passenger bay can detect a fire within seconds and send a signal to the fire control panel located in the driver’s cabin.

ALERT: An audio-visual control panel paired with a hooter/siren alerts the driver and passengers in real time.

SUPPRESS: In the event of a fire, the foam-based suppression system located in the engine bay or the water mist system located in the passenger bay will activate to extinguish the fire & bring down the temperature ensuring a safer environment for passengers to evacuate.
